A photographer living north of Boston, Laurie is one of eight New England shooters to be featured in the 8th Edition Regional Showcase of the Fence, an outdoor photography exhibit opening in Boston in the spring of 2020. Her chosen series “Before Self-Consciousness”, a long-term photojournalistic study of her sons journey from uninhibited childhood to the beginnings of self-consciousness, was also awarded an Honorable Mention in the international 2018 Monovisions photography competition.
Laurie has also gained extensive experience as an editorial shooter, with contribution to the Boston Globe, the Boston Globe Magazine, the Washington Post, the Chicago Tribune, Boston Common Magazine, the Associated Press, the Boston Herald, the LA Times and other editorial, corporate and commercial publications.
Laurie’s portraits have been recognized with first place awards in the Southern and Northern Short Course contests of the National Press Photographers Association, as well as the Boston Press Photographers Association. They have been featured in Time-Life Books, the America 24/7 book project, and in various corporate and commercial outlets. Her warm and character driven portraits and lifestyle images are featured in various New England college and corporate materials.
Laurie’s fine art photography ranges from documentary, to portrait, to landscape and botanical and has been shown in juried shows in Athens, Crete, Texas, and Boston.
In June 2019, she participated in A. Smith Gallery’s Open-Themed/Unconstrained juried show in Johnson City, Texas with her print “Lost” from her Before Self-Consciousness series. In July 2019, Laurie participated in A.Smith Gallery’s “Summertime” juried show with her print “Lake Dreams”.
In August 2018, Laurie’s black and white print “Warren’s Barn” was chosen to be shown at the juried Chania International Photo Festival in Greece. Also in 2018, she participated in A. Smith Gallery’s juried exhibition “portraits” in Johnson City, Texas with the image “The Gator.
In 2017, Laurie participated in two Blank Wall Gallery juried exhibitions in Athens, Greece. Her image “Warren’s Barn” was displayed in the Blank Wall Gallery’s 2017 juried Black and White Portraits exhibition and her limited edition print “The Sled” was displayed in the gallery’s 2017 People and Winter exhibition.
